Lieven Danneels is full professor at the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences and Director of Education at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Science at Ghent University. He is co-header of the Spine, Head and Pain Research Unit Ghent. He authored more than 190 publications in international peer reviewed journals (A1), many national publications and several book chapters. He participated in several national and international projects. He has also received about 20 research grants from national and international research funds. In 2000 Lieven received the "Clinical Science Award 2000" from the Spine Society of Europe, in 2002 the "Prix de l'Academie Européenne de Médecine de Réadaptation". In 2011 his work was awarded the ISSLS Prize from the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine, the world's leading international award for research within the field of the low back. Lieven was awarded by the Free University of Brussels with the Francqui Chair (2014-2015). Lieven Danneels is past-president (2011-2021) and current board member of the Belgian Back Society. He was part of the Scientific Committee of the Interdisciplinary World Congress on Low Back & Pelvic Girdle Pain (2010-2023), and hosted the 2019 edition in Antwerp. In 2026 he will organize this world congress.
